Bryan East Campus Emergency Department doubles in size to meet increasing patient care needs

On Tuesday, November 17 at 8 a.m., the newly remodeled and expanded emergency department at Bryan East Campus opens to better serve our patients, EMS responders and staff.

“We are extremely excited to complete renovations to the Bryan East Campus Emergency Department and look forward to providing our patients and their families with the best possible care in this updated space,” said David Reese, vice president of clinical and support services at Bryan Health. ”We listened to feedback from our staff, patients and families to design our new facility to meet their needs.”

Bryan Health spared no detail in planning and building the new emergency room. The improvements will provide a comfortable environment for patients and their families to receive care, implement advanced technology for staff and increase convenience for EMS providers who transport patients to the Bryan East Campus Emergency Department as well as patients that arrive in personal cars.

The expansion doubles the emergency department size, which now covers 29,000 square feet, and adds seven new patient rooms to bring the total number of rooms to 23. The new ambulance bay features a secure, enclosed garage that can house six emergency vehicles at one time, doubling its previous capacity.

Additionally, a new public emergency room entrance and expanded parking lot are part of the redesign. The new entryway features a covered drop-off area with heated pavement to prevent snow and ice accumulation as well as improved signage. Parking near the emergency department was expanded to 30 spaces, doubling its previous size to accommodate more visitors and guests. An elevator was added to the ground floor of this parking lot that will take individuals to an enclosed, second-floor walkway that leads directly to the main entrance of the emergency department.

Inside the building, the newly remodeled area features a modern layout and updated furnishings. In addition to private patient rooms, specific areas are designed for specialized treatment, including a dedicated sexual assault exam room and dedicated decontamination exam room.

“This project reaffirms our commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients and their families at some of the most significant moments in their lives,” said Dr. Ed Mlinek, medical director of Bryan emergency departments.

The renovated Bryan East Campus Emergency Department was built at a cost of $13.4 million and was the first expansion to the emergency department in fifteen years.
