Bryan Health Marks Completion of Phase One of Bryan East Campus Renovation Project
On Thursday, Bryan Health held a symbolic ribbon cutting to mark the end of phase one of the Bryan East Campus Renovation. The ribbon was cut on the newly constructed grand staircase in the Acklie Tower. The grand staircase connects new waiting areas on the first and second floors.
In addition, 11 new surgical suites are complete and taking cases. The new operating rooms are about 20 percent larger than previous surgical rooms to accommodate modern advances and new technology.
The completion of phase one highlights multiple improvements:
- Enhancements to the main entrance, including a nearly 60-foot obelisk and two-story addition between Bryan Medical Center and Bryan Medical Plaza
- New surgical suites that are larger and equipped with state-of-the-art technology
- New first floor waiting area with modern amenities, including a grand staircase that connects new waiting areas on the first and second floors
- Relocated sterile processing area with close proximity to operating rooms
Construction crews have already done an incredible amount of work in phase one:
- About 120 trucks have delivered nearly 1,100 cubic yards of concrete to the front entrance
- A 58-foot tall obelisk was built to provide structural support, weighing 330,000 pounds
- Nearly six miles of plumbing pipe and 120,000 pounds of ductwork has been installed
Phase two of the project is now underway.
In this phase, old operating rooms will be demolished and new pre and post-operative rooms will be built.
Last January, construction began on the $47 million, four-phase Bryan East Campus Renovation. Updates to public spaces, clinical areas and surgical suites will transform the patient and family experience. The project is on track to be completed in early 2020.
Overall, here are some key elements and statistics on the project:
- 115,000 square feet will be renovated and transformed
- 14 large operating rooms (11 are complete) and two specialty procedure rooms
- 42 private patient rooms for care before and after surgery
- 18 rooms for recovery after surgery
- 4 private consult rooms for families to meet with doctors
