Bryan Health and Project Pink’d Share Positive Messages in Spanish for Cancer Patients
Be Hopeful Boxes in Spanish
Nebraskans diagnosed with breast cancer whose primary language is Spanish will now have access to custom messages of hope, thanks to a partnership between Bryan Health and Project Pink’d. This resource, already available in English, will help meet the needs of Spanish speakers in our region.
“Ensuring equitable health care is a priority at Bryan,” said Ashton Wyrick, Bryan Health assistant director of government & community relations. “With these boxes, we hope to make a difference and provide comfort and support to Spanish-speaking Nebraskans affected by breast cancer.”
The small “Be Hopeful” boxes contain 31 cards with positive messages, one for each day of the month. The reverse side of each card encourages survivors to pay it forward by writing in their own message and sharing the hope with their family, friends and community.
To ensure messages resonate culturally, the Nebraska Commission on Latino-Americans helped with selection and translation.
“Expanding our reach to the Spanish speaking community is gratifying,” said Shawn McCarville, director of marketing and programming, Project Pink’d. “Our mission is to provide tools and resources for all breast cancer survivors in Nebraska and western Iowa and we hope to develop new relationships through the Spanish versions of our “Be Hopeful” boxes.”
Organizations serving people diagnosed with breast cancer will be able to order Spanish “Be Hopeful” boxes from Project Pink’d in early 2024. The boxes will be available for distribution throughout Nebraska.
