Platte Valley Medical Center Welcomes Dr. Zane Atkins!
Kearney Regional Medical Center and Platte Valley Medical Center would like to welcome Dr. Zane Atkins!
Dr. Atkins began his education at the University of North Carolina- Charlotte through the AirForce ROTC program. He went on to graduate from Duke University School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship and residency in surgery, as well as his training in cardiothoracic surgery, heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support.
Dr. Atkins has completed many military appointments as a surgeon including: Keesler Air Force Base (AFB) in Mississippi, Balad AFB in Iraq, Travis AFB in California and David Grant USAF Medical Center in California. Dr. Atkins retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force in 2016.
With more than 20 years of experience practicing medicine, Dr. Atkins has spent time in Texas, California and North Carolina. He says he is ready to ‘settle down’ in the Midwest and is excited to be joining the cardiology team at Platte Valley Medical Clinic and Kearney Regional Medical Center. His primary focus is helping patients with heart failure, transplants and heart pumps, and other circulatory supports.
He and his wife have two children, ages nine and one. In his free time, Dr. Atkins enjoys golf, tennis and hiking.
