Gifts of Cash

A vast majority of gifts to the Bryan Foundation are given in the form of cash, usually by check. Donors are asked to make checks payable to the Bryan Foundation. A note accompanying your check can offer you an opportunity to designate your gift for a specific department, program or project of particular interest to you. Or, you may leave your gift undesignated, allowing the Board of Directors the flexibility to use your gift in an area of greatest need.

Planned Gifts

These gifts can range from cash, securities, real estate, insurance and other assets. They also can be arranged in a variety of income generating and tax-saving vehicles, including Gift Annuities, Charitable Trust, Charitable Remainder Unitrust and other blended gift options. Individuals establishing a planned gift are recognized through the Bryan Foundation’s Legacy Society.

Beyond Expectations & Grateful Patients

Acts of human kindness abound in the health care profession. Many times, patients and family want to recognize the caring and compassion of a medical center staff member, a physician or a helpful volunteer. A gift to the Foundation, its use designated by the donor, is a wonderful way to recognize the individual for the care provided. In each case, the Foundation informs the honored individual regarding the gift. All gifts made in honor of an individual or group will be listed in our Annual Report.

Memorial Gifts

The Memorial Gifts Program is an impactful way for families and friends to honor and remember those close to their hearts who have passed away. It also signals continued support for quality health care provided at Bryan Health. Each year, memorials are earmarked for several areas throughout Bryan and its related entities. At the time a memorial is established with the Foundation, we offer a tribute to the individual along with a listing of all donors in the Foundation's Hall of Honor located in the main corridor of the medical center. We also take great pride in notifying, when possible, immediate members of the individual's family regarding the donor's gift. All memorial gifts are listed in the Foundation's Annual Report.

Gifts of Securities

The use of appreciated securities (stocks, mutual funds, etc.) as a giving source is a popular alternative to a cash gift because it actually saves taxes twice. Donors not only receive an income tax deduction for the full market value of their securities (assuming they’ve held the securities for more than one year), but they also avoid any capital gains tax on the appreciation! As an added note, appreciated securities that are used to make a bequest to the Bryan Foundation, or to fund a charitable trust, gift annuity, pooled income fund or other planned giving arrangement may allow the donor to realize substantial estate and gift tax benefits.

Gifts of Closely Held Stock

Individuals who own closely held stock may take advantage of special gift opportunities. These gift plans are designed and evaluated individually with donors, their appropriate advisors and Bryan Foundation legal counsel. Special legal issues and the marketability of the stock are important factors in the evaluation.

Generous friends have benefited themselves as well as Bryan Health by making gifts of real estate, varying from condominiums to farmland. As with other appreciated property, a gift of real estate can unlock the full value of your property and offer you specific economic advantages while providing lasting benefits to Bryan Health. The Bryan Foundation carefully evaluates each potential gift to ensure that it will enhance Bryan Health's mission. Marketability of the property usually is a key consideration.
