Department Shadowing (Non-Doctor)

Gain experience in health care by shadowing an individual within one of the many career fields available at Bryan. Our friendly employees are excited to have you alongside them as you learn about their area of expertise. Not only will you learn about your interested career, but you’ll also develop professional connections with those you shadow.

All shadowing requests are approved by department managers and will be granted based on available staff and individual department workload.

Job Shadowing Requirements

Prior to shadowing, you will be required to verify that you are at  least 16 years of age and meet the immunization requirements.


Request a Shadowing Experience

  1. Complete the required Computer Based Learning (CBL) with access to a printer.
    - Complete inquiry page at the end of the CBL.
    In order for your shadowing to be scheduled, this page must be submitted. This form will be emailed to Human Resources who will arrange a date and time for your shadow experience via email.
  2. Please allow two-three weeks for Bryan human resources to contact you about your shadowing request. If you do not receive an email for any reason within this time frame, please contact Human Resources at 402-481-8610 or email jobshadow@bryanhealth.org.
  3. If you are under 18 years of age, print and complete the parent permission and immunization forms on the inquiry form. Submit your completed forms to Human Resources. You can scan, email, fax or hand deliver your forms.

Day of Your Shadowing Experience

  1. Dress in business casual attire with closed toed shoes.
  2. Leave your cell phone at home or in your car.
  3. Bring your shadowing record sheet.
  4. Pick up your name badge with your Unit Manager
    You CANNOT shadow if you don’t have your name badge.

  5. Report for shadowing at the time and place arranged for you by Human Resources. Human Resources will provide this information to you by email.

Required Immunizations

To job shadow, a history of immunity/immunizations for the following diseases is required:

  • Flu shot (required September 1-April 30); must be received at least two weeks in advance of shadowing within the required period. 
  • Mumps, Rubella, Rubeola (MMR)
  • Varicella or past history of chickenpox
  • Hepatitis B
  • Negative tuberculin (TB) skin test or follow-up care for previously positive TB skin test (required to be completed within the last two years)
  • DPT/TDAP (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus)

Personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • You will be required to wear a mask while in the building. Surgical masks are available on clinical units
  • When in patient rooms, a surgical mask and goggles or a face shield must be worn
