Dr. Rachel Jendro, DO, FACOS is proud to be the first fellowship trained Breast Surgical Oncologist to serve the community of Lincoln and greater Nebraska. Her motivation for serving the women of Nebraska is due to her lifelong mission to provide evidence-based medicine to enhance the standard of care through surgical expertise, compassion for women’s health, and emotional support. As an osteopathic surgeon, Dr. Jendro brings enhanced surgical training and vast experience from accredited medical institutions, and is committed to her patients through their entire journey.
As a native of Kentucky, Dr. Jendro attended the University of Kentucky. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Jendro received her medical degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her general surgery internship and residency were completed at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Jendro was selected as chief resident in her general surgery residency program at Grandview Medical Center. Dr. Jendro is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
Dr. Jendro was individually selected for a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. As a breast surgical oncology fellow, Dr. Jendro studied under Dr. Charles Cox, a renowned pioneer in breast surgery. Her training at Moffitt, under Dr. Cox, focused on best surgical methods for treating both benign and malignant breast disease. Dr. Jendro has been published in the Journal of Surgical Oncology for “Early Experience with Ultrasound Features after Intrabeam Intraoperative Radiation for Early Stage Breast Cancer.”
In addition to her extensive surgical training, Dr. Jendro operated as a Breast Surgical Oncologist from 2013 to 2021 at UNC Rex Hospital. During this time at UNC, she served with distinction as Chair of the UNC Rex Breast Care Committee. This committee, led by Dr. Jendro, was responsible for meeting national standards for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC). Her leadership as chair, coupled with collaboration from physicians in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, and Radiology, was essential in maintaining these esteemed accreditations at UNC Rex Hospital.
After tabulating national patient satisfaction data, Dr. Jendro was chosen to receive the Five Star Excellence Award for “Scoring in the Top Ten Percent Nationally for Excellent Responses in Surgical Services and Overall Quality of Physician Care.” At UNC, Dr. Jendro was an integral part in developing the multidisciplinary breast conference where patients are presented for collaborative discussions between surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, genetic counselors, social workers, and clinical trials teams. Her contributions to this conference helped establish personalized treatment plans for patients with the collaboration of all disciplines to ensure the best outcome.
Dr. Jendro has been honored with the distinction as Chief Medical Director of the Bryan Health Multidisciplinary Breast Tumor Board and the Bryan Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic.
