Matthew Schaffer, APRN

My career in health care began when I took a job as a CNA at a nursing home in southeast Nebraska. After a year I returned to school and completed my bachelors of science degree in nursing at Creighton University. Upon completion I worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha, in intensive care and the emergency department. I then went back to complete my graduate training at Creighton as well. I am Board Certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner, treating patients across the lifespan. I joined Bryan Heart in Summer 2014, working with our inpatient services. Most of the patients and families that I meet for the first time are going through major life changing events. As a nurse practitioner, my approach to care is to draw on my experiences and remember our patients are not just names on a list, but real people in vulnerable situations who are counting on us. I work with a fantastic team of nurse practitioners and physicians assistants, in support of the excellent cardiologists and surgeons at Bryan Heart.
