Expert Newborn Care In Grand Island

Bringing your baby the best care.

We understand that it can be scary to find out that your newborn baby requires intensive care. That’s why our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) staff provides expert care for your baby, while helping you understand your baby’s needs.

The Level II NICU at Grand Island Regional Medical Center has 8 spacious private suites giving your little one a peaceful environment for them to thrive and grow.

Our NICU team strongly supports family-centered care and we encourage you to stay with your baby as much as you like and to be involved with the care of your baby. Each of our private NICU suites has a sleeping area for parents, a private bathroom with a shower for parents, and a private storage cabinet to keep your family’s personal belongings.

Benefits of Choosing Our NICU

Our Level II NICU has all the latest equipment and specially trained nurses to care for your baby. Choosing to entrust your baby’s care with our compassionate and experienced team means your family gains access to:

  • A nursing staff who is specially trained to closely monitor and care for infants from 32 weeks gestation or greater and who focus on developmentally appropriate care centered around your baby’s specific care needs
  • Our team of experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) is onsite 24 hours a day
  • An environment to best support your baby’s development. Our 8 private spacious suites, with the ability to care for twins and triplets, allow for a peaceful and family-centered environment.
  • Encouraged family involvement with baby’s care and ongoing emotional support from our NICU team.
  • Breastfeeding support from our Lactation team of Registered Nurses. We encourage and support our breastfeeding moms in the NICU as we understand the importance of breast milk, especially for your premature baby. Donor breast milk is also available in our NICU.
  • For babies who need the highest level of care, our staff will help stabilize and will arrange a direct transfer to a level III NICU.
  • Our NICU team will also teach and prepare parents for discharge and caring for your new little one at home.

Here for the Everyday, By Your Side for the Critical Stay

Grand Island Regional Medical Center has you covered no matter the level of care your baby needs. In addition to having the latest equipment and nurse expertise in our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we are pleased to have Neonatal Nurse Practitioners here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For the Everyday

Oftentimes, our Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) are there during your journey into parenthood. NNPs are available to attend high-risk deliveries to provide immediate care and intervention should your little one need some extra help after delivery.

For the Critical Stay

In the chance that your baby requires special medical care, the providers and staff of Grand Island Regional Medical Center Level II NICU are there to provide the expert care they need. Our team of experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners will manage your newborn’s care while in the NICU and provide your baby’s Pediatrician with updates during their stay.

We understand that this can be a scary situation for you and that you may have many questions, so our NNPs help to explain your baby’s needs. Having Neonatal Nurse Practitioners here at Grand Island Regional Medical Center means more babies can stay close to home even if they need critical care, allowing for the critical bonding time between baby and parents to go uninterrupted.
