Casting Through Cancer

Therapeutic fly fishing for those affected by cancer

Fly fishing has proven benefits for both mental and physical health. Join us to learn and experience these benefits for yourself. Volunteer community anglers from the Cornhusker Fly Fishers club will offer instruction on casting, while you spend time together in nature.

The group meets twice a month at the stocked pond behind the April Sampson Cancer Center.

How does fishing therapy work?

The rhythmic motion of casting brings the brain to a meditative-like state. And time in nature helps reduce cortisol, known as the stress hormone.

Do I need to know how to fly fish?

All levels and experience are welcome, and equipment is provided. Please wear a hat and eye protection, such as sunglasses.

Please also seek approval from your medical provider.
