Hospitalist Services

Specialized physician consultative care for inpatients

Bryan Medical Center offers several hospitalist specialty services, upon referral from your doctor, to care for you while you’re in the hospital. Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in adult inpatient hospital care. This care is provided in coordination with your primary doctor. Hospitalists only care for you while you are in the hospital. When you leave the hospital, your doctor will receive a summary of your care and will provide ongoing care for you.

Inpatient Hospitalist Services

Around the clock physician care for inpatients

The Bryan Hospitalist Program provides around-the-clock care by licensed, board certified internal medicine physicians who specialize in adult inpatient hospital care. Registered nurses also serve on the team as hospitalist coordinators.

Bryan hospitalist care is provided in association with Inpatient Physician Associates. One doctor from the group is in charge of your care. This means you have the benefit of being seen by a board certified internal medicine physician whose practice is entirely focused on the care of hospitalized patients. A hospitalist is always available at the medical center – 24 hours a day, seven days a week – to respond to changes in your condition that may need immediate attention and to answer any questions you or your family may have.

As members of the Bryan health care team, hospitalists work with your primary care doctor, surgeons, specialists, nurses, radiologists, therapists, pharmacists and others involved in your care.

The hospitalist gives your primary care doctor updates on any changes in your condition during your hospitalization. The hospitalist makes dismissal arrangements for you including prescribing your take-home medications. When you leave the medical center, your hospitalist will call your primary care doctor and send a summary report of your care.

Intensivist Hospitalist Care

Caring for the specialized needs of patients in the ICU

Patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have very complex medical issues that are often being addressed by many different specialties. Board certified pulmonologists with our Intensivist Hospitalist Program coordinate and oversee the vast range of care provided to our ICU patients throughout their stay. They work with doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and other members of the health care team. Intensivists also are a resource for family members to answer questions and provide updates on care being provided to your loved one.

Intensivist hospitalist care is provided in association with Nebraska Pulmonary Specialties and Lincoln Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates.

Neurohospitalist Care

Caring for patients with neurologic conditions

Our board certified neurologist provides physician consultations and patient care to patients with neurological conditions who are hospitalized. The Bryan neurohospitalist evaluates and manages the neurological aspects of your loved one’s care, and is available to answer questions and provide updates to your family. The neurohospitalist works collaboratively with the entire health care team.

Neurohospitalist services are provided in association with Bryan Neurology.

Psychiatric Hospitalist Care

24-hour physician care for mental health and addiction patients

Our board certified psychiatric hospitalists care for adult and youth patients in our mental health treatment programs and clients at the Bryan Independence Center substance abuse program. They work closely with your nurses, therapists, social workers and pharmacists to coordinate your care daily and prepare for your discharge from treatment and continuing care with your community provider. Psychiatric hospitalists also provide consultations to inpatients at Bryan Medical Center with a referral from the patient’s doctor. They are available 24-hours a day to respond to patient needs.

Psychiatric hospitalist care is provided in association with Bryan Heartland Psychiatry.
